HELPING TO SAVE THE HAWAIIAN MAONARCH BUTTERFLY

Wisdom of Women Institute has a VISION and unending commitment...to create, develop and operate an interactive butterfly habitat, farm and retreat center in support of personal transformation and creativity. It will be a safe and nurturing place for those in need of community, support, guidance and expression during major life transitions. We can think of no better teacher to show us the art of "starting over" ...than the enchanted butterfly!

After many years of creating and developing a network of expertise and support, WOW Institute is a qualified 501(c(3) non-profit foundation. Our immediate goal is to re-establish our transition and creative center on Oahu, Hawaii. Total destruction by a tropical flood in October of 2004 and loss of land lease in 2005, have left us without a program facility and land for the children's butterfly exhibit and habitat.

We are currently and actively seeking donations, funding and real estate to continue the programs and projects so needed by many. We will continue to serve and mentor people from many locations during periods of transition in their life. Once we restore our residential retreat programs, they will serve those who wish to step out of daily life to clarify personal strengths, define creative aspirations and get their lives flowing again.

OUR BUTTERFLY PROGRAMS

At first the Pulelehua Project seemed a good way to help save disappearing population of the Hawaiian Monarch Butterfly while providing funds to help the people start over. "We started out thinking it was us helping them, but it didn't take long to figure out that the butterflies were the ones teaching us about how to transform our lives. We now refer to communing with our butterflies as 'butterfly therapy'. They create opportunities for all involved to heal and transform their troubled relationships and unfulfilled dreams and purpose. This is done through relating to and closely following the example, time line and stages of the butterfly life cycle.
Through our Butterfly Projects, volunteers plant butterfly gardens where they hand-raise baby caterpillars
Later, the butterflies are released back into a restored natural habitat
20 percent are sold for release as a fund-raiser to weddings, memorials and special events.

From the cave drawings of the Bronze Age to the creation of nearly a hundred live butterfly exhibits around the world - it is quite evident that humans love butterflies
In many societies it is felt that when we die we become butterflies with wings to glide us into heaven
In some languages the word soul and butterfly is the same.
